| |
1. |
Then Ninshubur spoke to Inanna: "My queen, when the Boat of Heaven Enters the Nigulla Gate of Uruk, Let the high water flow in our city;
2. |
Let the deep-going boats sail swiftly through our canals."
3. |
Inanna answered Ninshubur: "On the day the Boat of Heaven
4. |
Enters the Nigulla Gate of Uruk,
5. |
Let high water sweep over the streets;
6. |
Let high water flow over the paths.
7. |
Let old men give counsel;
8. |
Let old women offer heart-soothing.
9. |
Let the young men show the might of their weapons;
10. |
Let the little children laugh and sing.
11. |
Let all Uruk be festive!
12. |
Let the high priest greet the Boat of Heaven with song.
13. |
Let him utter prayers.
14. |
Let him slaughter oxen and sheep.
15. |
Let him pour beer out of the cup.
16. |
Let the drum and tambourine resound.
17. |
Let the sweet tigi-music be played.
18. |
Let all the lands proclaim my noble name.
19. |
Let my people sing my praises."
20. |
And so it was, On the day the Boat of Heaven entered the Nigulla Gate of Uruk,
21. |
High water swept over the streets;
22. |
High water flowed over the paths.
23. |
The Boat of Heaven docked at the holy shrine of Uruk;
24. |
The Boat of Heaven docked at the holy house of Inanna.
25. |
Then Enki called to his servant Isimud a seventh time, saying: "My sukkal, Isimud-"
26. |
"My king, Enki, I stand to serve you."
27. |
"Where is the Boat of Heaven now?"
28. |
"The Boat of Heaven is at the White Quay."
29. |
"Go! She has aroused wonder there.
30. |
The queen has aroused wonder at the White Quay.
31. |
Inanna has aroused wonder at the White Quay for the Boat of Heaven."
32. |
The holy me were being unloaded.
33. |
As the me which Inanna had received from Enki were unloaded, They were announced and presented to the people of Sumer.
34. |
Then more me appeared-more me than Enki had given Inanna.
35. |
And these, too, were announced, And these, too, were presented to the people of Uruk:
36. |
"Inanna brought the me:
37. |
She brought the placing of the garment on the ground.
38. |
She brought allure.
39. |
She brought the art of women.
40. |
She brought the perfect execution of the me.
41. |
She brought the tigi- and lilis-drums.
42. |
She brought the ub-, the meze-, and the ala- Tambourines..."
43. |
Inanna spoke saying: "Where the Boat of Heaven has docked, The place shall be called The White Quay.
44. |
Where the holy me have been presented, That place I shall name The Lapis Lazuli Quay."
45. |
Then Enki spoke to Inanna, saying: "In the name of my power! In the name of my holy shrine!
46. |
Let the me you have take with you remain in the holy shrine of your city.
47. |
Let the high priest spend his days at the holy shrine in song.
48. |
Let the citizens of your city prosper.
49. |
Let the children of Uruk rejoice.
50. |
The people of Uruk are allies of the people of Eridu.
51. |
Let the city of Uruk be restored to its great place."
