Chapter 1  
     
  Song of the Macrocosm  
1.
 I praise my Father
 
2.
 my God, my strength,  
3.
 who infused in my head  
4.
 both soul and reason,  
5.
 who, to keep guard over me,  
6.
 did bestow my seven senses,  
7.
 from fire and earth, water and air:
 
8.
 the mist and flowers,  
9.
 the wind and trees,  
10.
 and much skilful wisdom  
11.
 has my father bestow on me.  
12.
 One if for instinct,  
13.
 two is for feeling,  
14.
 three is for speaking,  
15.
 four is for tasting,  
16.
 five is for seeing,  
17.
 six is for hearing,  
18.
 seven is for smelling.  
19.
 As I have said,  
20.
 seven heavens there are  
21.
 above the astrologer's head,  
22.
 and three companies (parts) of the sea;
 
23.
 the sea beats on the strand,
 
24.
 the sea is great and wonderful,
 
25.
 the world itself likewise.
 
26.
 On high, God made  
27.
 the planets:  
28.
 He made the Sun,  
29.
 He made the Moon,  
30.
 He made Mars,  
31.
 He made Mercury,  
32.
 He made venus,  
33.
 (He made Veneris)  
34.
 He made Jupiter,  
35.
 Seventhly, He made Saturn.  
36.
 The good God made  
37.
 five zones of the earth,  
38.
 for as long as it lasts:  
39.
 the first is formed cold,  
40.
 the second is formed cold,  
41.
 the third is formed hot,  
42.
 injurious to flowers,  
43.
 unpleasant and hurtful.
 
44.
 The forth is paradise,  
45.
 which people shall enter.  
46.
 The fifth is temperate,  
47.
 the habitable part of the universe.
 
48.
 Into three it is divided,  
49.
 Into determined regions:
 
50.
 the first is Asia,  
51.
 the second is Africa,  
52.
 the third is Europe,  
53.
 blessed by baptism,  
54.
 lasting until doomsday  
55.
 when everything will be judged.
 
56.
 He made my awen  
57.
 with which I praise the king.
 
58.
 I am Taliesin,  
59.
 I have the prophet's voice.  
60.
 Continuing until the end  
61.
 for the saviour's deliverance.
