| |
The End of Days (also known as End Time(s), Armageddon, Apocalypse and Doomsday) is a fundamental element of faith for Judaism and Christianity. It is the belief in a common scenario that:
| |
"There will be a time of great tribulation on Earth followed by the appearance of a great Messiah, who will usher in the Kingdom of God on Earth and bring an end to suffering and evil." |
| |
How these events unfold and how they are validated differ between both religions and even within different sects within Christianity and Judaism according to the sacred scripture quoted as a sign of prophecy. |
| |
While affirmation in the belief of the End of Days is something shared by all Christians and Jews since the earliest of days, serious interest in the credibility and validation of prophetic signs is increasing again. |
| |
Many of the prophecies detailed in the Book of Revelation have an eerie resemblance to the events occurring in the near past and present day-global disasters, global wars, global disease, the age of the internet and even continuing events in the Middle East. |
| |
It is not simply fanatical believers that see this period of history as the moment foretold and believed as the End of Days, it has become a mainstream view of millions of Christians and Jews around the world. |
| |
So are we witnessing the End of Days before our eyes? What are the proper signs and prophecies? How are they being fulfilled and how might we know the truth of this? |
| |
To answer these questions, we will now address common signs and prophecies shared by both religions and all sects, the most common signs and prophecies of Jewish End Times Philosophy and then Christian End Times Philosophy.
| |
Common End Times Prophecies |
| |
As both Christians and Jews hold ancient Jewish scripture as sacred and because Christians maintain Jesus fulfilled the signs of the Jewish Messiah, both religions share many common signs and prophecies for the coming End of Days. |
| |
Common Prophecy #1- The end of time as we know it (see more) |
| |
The first and most obvious End Times Prophecy implied in all End Times Philosophy is that time as we know it will end.
| |
Common Prophecy #2- A period of great global tribulation (see more) |
| |
The second most common End Times Prophecy is that prior to the arrival of a Messiah, there will be a period of great global tribulation which includes (but is not limited to): floods, earthquakes, disease, meteorite showers, famine and war.
| |
Common Prophecy #3- A Messiah will come (see more) |
| |
The third most common End Times Prophecy is that after the great global tribulation a Messiah or Christ will come.
| |
Common Prophecy #4- Great knowledge will come (see more) |
| |
The fourth most common End Times Prophecy is that an age of great spiritual wisdom and truth of things will come in conjunction with the other prophecies.
| |
Common Prophecy #5- The coming of a one-world religious system (see more) |
| |
Following the coming of the age of spiritual wisdom, a common End Times Prophecy is the coming of a one-world religious system. This remains a controversial prophecy between Judaism, Christianity and various extreme sects within Christianity.
| |
Common Prophecy #6- The coming of a unified political system (see more) |
| |
Similar to the common End Times prophecy of the coming of a one-world religious system is the prophecy that the End Times we will see the establishment a one-world political system. This remains a highly controversial prophecy between Judaism, Christianity and various extreme sects within Christianity.
| |

A very important and common End Times Prophecy is that upon the appearance of the Messiah, the Kingdom of God will be established on Earth and continue to exist forever more.
| |
Common Prophecy #8- Jerusalem will be renewed and a central international city (see more)
| |
An important and common End Times Prophecy is that upon the End Times and the coming of the Kingdom of God, Jerusalem will be renewed and rebuilt as a central international city.
| |
Common Prophecy #9- All of the dead will rise again (see more) |
| |
The belief that at the End of Days the dead will rise again is considered so important, it is part of the declaration of faith that most Christians and Jews perform at various times of their life and attendance to worship.
| |
Common Prophecy #10- Death and evil will be conquered (see more) |
| |
The last key and common prophecy of End Times is the belief that at the end of Days and the coming of all other signs, the concepts of death (damnation) and evil will be conquered.
| |
Jewish End Time Prophecies |
| |
The most fundamental Jewish End Times Prophecies have already been outlined as common End Times Prophecies shared by both Christianity and Judaism.
| |
However, Judaism shares one clear and unmistakable difference in End Times prophecy in that Judaism does not believe Jesus was the Messiah foretold in their scripture. The second major difference is the emphasis on the positive aspect of the End of Days in the Olam Ha-Ba meaning “World to Come”. |
| |
Jewish Prophecy #1- The Messiah is yet to come (see more) |
| |
The first major unique prophecy regarding Judaism compared to Christianity and the End Times is the belief that the Messiah is yet to come. That Jesus was not the Messiah (Christ meaning the same thing as Messiah).
| |
Jewish Prophecy #2- The wonder of the world to come (see more)
| |
The second major unique prophecy regarding Judaism is the greater emphasis in abundant detail of the wonderment of the world to come after the arrival of the Messiah. Unlike Christianity that places a tremendous amount of energy and focus on the terrors foretold in the tribulation and how people allegedly will be slaughtered and tortured by global events, Judaism emphasizes the positive world after the tribulation.

Christian End Time Prophecies
| |
The most fundamental Christian End Times Prophecies have already been outlined as common End Times Prophecies shared by both Christianity and Judaism. However, Christianity differs from Judaism in terms of substantial additional prophecies and whether some prophecies have or have not yet been fulfilled.
| |
The biggest differences of End Time Prophecies are not to be found between Judaism, Islam and Christianity, but between the various Christian sects and themselves. Older sects such as Catholicism take a non-literal approach to the fulfillment of prophetic signs of the End of Days. Whereas much younger sects such as Evangelicals, Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses have adopted a more literal approach to interpreting signs of End Times.
| |
In addition, many Christian fundamentalist sects are unique amongst the Abrahamic religions in being obsessed not only in the fulfillment of prophecy but that it occurs according to a strict checklist order. These extreme Christian sects, whom have grown in number and influence, have adopted a kind of prophecy about prophecy itself that the evidence of fulfilled End Times prophecy in is not good enough unless it follows their own specific tick-a-box order of events for the end of the world.
| |
In the case of younger Christian sects such as the Evangelicals, Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses, all have been active in re-writing their own interpretations and beliefs of End Times Prophecies on top of common Christian Prophecy- the most notable being the concept of the Rapture an idea created less than 200 years old that is now considered a common Christian End Times Prophecy.
| |
The following are the most commonly accepted Christian End Times Prophecies (in addition to Common Shared Prophecies):
| |
Christian Prophecy #1- The anti-Christ (see more) |
| |
The first and most distinctive difference between Jewish and Christian End Times philosophy is the Christian notion of the anti-Christ. In popular Christian belief, the anti-Christ is considered the adversary of the Messiah, the “evil one” that must be overcome before peace shall reign on Earth. |
| |
Christian Prophecy #2- The Rapture (see more) |
| |
The second distinct difference between Judaism and Christianity is the belief in the concept of “Rapture”- a supernatural event first raised as an idea less than 200 years ago whereby true believers are somehow transported to safety during the great tribulation, but then united with God, the Earth and the Messiah when the Messianic age begins. |
| |
Christian Prophecy #3-The Day of Judgment (see more) |
| |
While Judaism appears to share the notion of a Day accounting for ones actions with Christianity, in truth the Prophecy of Judgment Day in Christian belief is when each and every person (alive or dead) is Judged without being allowed to plead for ones case and then either allowed to Heaven or condemned to an eternity of torment and misery. |
| |
Christian Prophecy #4- The Beast and 666 (see more) |
| |
The fourth distinct and common Christian theme concerning the end times is the existence of a powerful entity known as “the Beast” (that is a completely separate identity to the anti-Christ) that will play a critical part in the events during the End of Days and whose true identity is known by the number 666 – a mystery that until now has not been revealed.
