While Judaism appears to share the notion of a Day accounting for ones actions with Christianity, in truth the Prophecy of Judgment Day in Christian belief is when each and every person (alive or dead) is Judged without being allowed to plead for ones case and then either allowed to Heaven or condemned to an eternity of torment and misery.

The prophecy and concept of a day of judgment has been an extremely powerful and fearsome tool of Christian sects since the early days of the church. It has allowed many philosophers and religious leaders to consider who might be “worthy” and who are only good for kindling.

When combined with the historic public burnings that occurred under the reign of the Catholic Popes from the 5th Century until the 17th Century in Europe and as late as the 18th Century in the New World, the vision of an eternity of agony in the fires of Hell was more than enough to keep most common people loyal in Catholic dominated nations.

However, since the late 19th Century and into the 20th Century, the fear and threat of eternal damnation in flames has failed to stem a growing immunity in Christian countries towards such terror, even with the clear evidence and fear of millions of non-Catholics dying agonizing deaths in the ovens of the Catholic run death camps of the Nazis.

As recent as 2007, the Pope emphasized the threat of eternal damnation by fire and torment. However, this prophecy of End Times has fallen out of favour compared to concepts such as the “Rapture”.
